KATHMANDU, March 12: Nepal has defeated Bhutan 3-0 in its opener of the Fifth SAFF Women Championship being held at Shahid Stadium in Biratnagar, Morang district on Tuesday.
Host Nepal made a flying start with two goals in the first half of the tournament. Manjali Kumari Yonjan scored the first goal for Nepal at the 13th minute. The score was soon doubled when Sabitra Bhandari hit another shot into the goal post of the opponent team.
Encouraged by the score, Nepal added another goal to the total when Niru Thapa struck another goal into the goal post of Bhutan.
Nepal drawn along with B’desh, Pakistan, Bhutan in SAFF C’ship
Nepal is eying the SAFF Women Championship tile. India is the main obstacle to the title dream of Nepal.
Nepal is in group A along with Bhutan and Bangladesh while India is in Group B with Sri Lanka and Maldives.
The tournament started at 3 pm today.
