KATHMANDU, Jan 1: Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba held a phone conversation with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Tuesday evening, urging him to prioritize the release of Nepali youth Bipin Joshi, who is currently under the control of Hamas.
Acknowledging reports that Hamas may release some hostages, Dr Rana appealed to the Israeli government through Minister Saar to intensify efforts for Bipin’s safe return. During the conversation, she expressed gratitude for Israel’s ongoing efforts to secure the release of all hostages including Joshi, and emphasized Nepal’s hope for swift action to free him from Hamas’ captivity.

Minister Saar assured Dr Rana that Israel is making all possible efforts for Bipin’s safe release. He also noted the importance of Qatar’s role in mediating negotiations with Hamas and expressed appreciation for Dr Rana’s earlier engagement with the Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulayifi.
Earlier on Tuesday, Dr Rana had urged the Qatari government to prioritize Joshi’s release in her call with Dr Al-Khulayifi. She also reached out to Egypt, another key mediator in ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israel, reiterating Nepal’s appeal.
Earlier last week, she made similar diplomatic overtures to the Egyptian government. Nepal government has been utilizing all available channels, including the United Nations and other international and regional forums, to advocate for Joshi’s release.
