PM Oli’s official visit to China has been scheduled for the first week of December. Foreign Minister Rana has been given the responsibility for coordinating the preparations for the visit. An eight-member committee, including top leaders of the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML, has also been formed to prepare for the PM’s visit.
China is going to formally invite Foreign Minister Rana for preparations after she was assigned the responsibility of coordinating the preparations for the PM’s visit. Earlier, China would not invite the foreign minister before a visit by the PM.
It is also speculated that during the PM’s visit, an agreement for the implementation of China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) will be signed. A complete agreement between the NC and the UML has not been reached regarding whether it will be through loans or grants.
