'16th five-year plan to have separate chapter on climate change'

It has been almost seven decades since planned development began in Nepal. To date, Nepal has implemented 15 periodic plans, and the draft of the 16th Plan is currently in the final stages of preparation. This five-year plan is set to commence from the next fiscal year.

In terms of climate risk in the world, Nepal is on the leading list. Every year, floods, landslides, melting and exploding glaciers, heavy rains, floods and fires are increasing.

Groundwater is a crucial component for sustaining water resources, especially in countries like Nepal, where surface water availability can be seasonally variable. However, groundwater assessment in Nepal is still in its early stages, marked by a lack of comprehensive data on groundwater levels, recharge rates, and aquifer capacities. This knowledge gap poses challenges in effectively managing groundwater resources, with an increasing reliance due to the unpredictability of surface water sources, particularly for irrigation and drinking water in both rural and urban areas.

These diplomatic bonds are continuously evolving and deepening across various sectors, making a substantial contribution to Nepal's prosperity and well-being.

Tata Motors unveiled the Tiago EV in Nepal, alongside the fuel-powered Punch model and Tata Nexon EV Max during the ongoing NADA Auto Show 2023. Republica had the opportunity to sit down with Mayank Baldi, Head of International Business for Passenger Vehicles at Tata Motors, who was on a visit to Nepal to launch the new products.
