KATHMANDU, Jan 15: The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court of Nepal is scheduled to hear a writ petition on Wednesday challenging the appointment of 52 individuals to constitutional bodies through an ordinance during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s previous term.

The petition, filed in January 2021, questions the legality of the appointments made under an ordinance. Despite being set for a hearing, the case has remained unresolved for nearly four years, with no ruling yet issued by the court.

The appointments were made just before President Bidya Devi Bhandari swore in 32 individuals based on recommendations from the Constitutional Council. Senior advocates Dinesh Tripathi and Om Prakash Aryal filed the petition, seeking to prevent the appointments and the oath-taking ceremony, fearing the process could proceed without a parliamentary hearing.
