KATHMANDU, Oct 19: Hosts Nepal played a goalless draw against Bhutan in its first match of the SAFF Women’s Championship football tournament at the Dasharath Stadium on Friday.


Although Nepal controlled the ball for most of the time during the match, it could not score a goal.

This is the first time in five encounters between the two countries in SAFF Championship that Nepal failed to score a goal against Bhutan.


With the draw, Nepal and Bhutan both settled for one point each behind group leaders Sri Lanka who earlier defeated the Maldives 1-0 to top the points table. The Maldives lies at the rock bottom without any point.


The Sri Lanka women’s national football team made a winning start to the SAFF Women's Championship-2024 earlier on Friday, thanks to the only goal by Emisha Anuradhini in the 18th minute of the match.


On Thursday, India thrashed Pakistan 5-2 in the opening match of the SAFF Women's Championship to top Group A. India is in Group A alongside Pakistan and Bangladesh .
