KATHMANDU, Jan 15: Chairperson of the National Assembly, Narayan Prasad Dahal, highlighted the significant role of the Maghe Sankranti festival in promoting national unity, religious and social harmony, mutual respect for identities, and appreciation of diverse cultures. In a message of greetings on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti, Chairperson Dahal extended heartfelt wishes to all parents, brothers, and sisters residing in Nepal and abroad. PM extends greetings on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti
Chairperson Dahal said that the Tharu community celebrates Maghe Sankranti as “Maghi” and marks it as the beginning of their New Year. He encouraged everyone to celebrate the festival with enthusiasm. He mentioned that Tharu and Magar communities use this occasion to review the past year and plan for the year ahead, while other communities celebrate it according to their unique traditions and specialties.
The festival is marked by preparing and consuming traditional dishes made from sesame seeds, yam, ghee, molasses, and sugar. It is celebrated with cultural events, processions, worship ceremonies, family gatherings, social reunions, and activities like archery games.
