Know the value of youth

“You should work hard when you are young. You never know what will happen to you after you age,” shared Badri Pariyar, a tailor at Botebahal, Kathmandu. Pariyar is 50 years old and you can find him working at the same spot, and it has been 13 years now.


He is originally from Makwanpur fled his own village for Birgunj during, the Maoist insurgency. He reminisced, “I worked as a rickshaw puller for six months in Birgunj. As I got infected by jaundice I came to Kathmandu and have stayed here ever since. First I worked in a garment factory. Then I sold ice-cream and as the ice-cream factory shut down, I started to do tailoring again.”

However, he became paralyzed at the age of 40 that made him realize the value of youth and vigor. He is currently living with his family. He said, “This is the work I can do and I am happy with it. Life is short and you have to live wisely.”
