School vandalized after student's sudden death

BANEPA, Feb 20: Gyankunj Academy in Banepa has been vandalized by family members and relatives of a student who died mysteriously on Monday.  

 

Seventeen-year-old Krishna Ram Purkuti, a 10th grader living in the school hostel and preparing for the upcoming SLC exams, reportedly died of illness. The family has accused the school authorities of negligence in his death.  When family members staged a protest that turned violent, police had to fire twice in the air to take  the situation under control.


According to other students who had been staying in the hostel, Krishna Ram had been ill for a few days. On Monday when his condition worsened, he was taken to Banepa Hospital by friends. This was around 5 pm. According to Inspector Anil Ghimire  of Area Police Office, Banepa, he was later admitted to Sheer Memorial Hospital, but he succumbed to his illness.

Family members said they were called for the post mortem two hours after the death. As per their statement, the school administration had not informed them about the illness. They have called on police to carry out proper investigations. 


Police have sent the body to TU Teaching Hospital for examination. They informed that the truth will be learnt after a post mortem report. “We will start any prosecution only after that and for now we are focusing on the investigation,” Ghimire said.
