KATHMANDU, Sept 20: A writ petition has been registered at the Supreme Court (SC) demanding the suspension of the Citizenship Bill.


The petition filed by Senior Advocate Dr Surendra Bhandari against the President's Office, Shital Niwas and other opposition parties on Thursday was postponed on Tuesday.

Along with the office of the President, the petition has made the House of Representatives, the National Assembly, the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, and the Home Ministry as defendants.


Senior Advocate Bhandari submitted a petition seeking an order not to authenticate the Citizenship Bill as it is not in the interest of the country. The hearing on the petition, which was adjourned from Tuesday, has been scheduled for hearing again on Wednesday.
