Periods don’t limit women

KATHMANDU, May 28: The government of Nepal will start celebrating the International Menstrual Hygiene Day from this year.

KATHMANDU, May 28: The government of Nepal will start celebrating the International Menstrual Hygiene Day from this year.


Bina Magar, Ministry of Water Supply and Sanitation has initiated to celebrate the day, which was until now, being observed with support of international agencies in the country.


Since 2014, the world has marked May 28 as the International Hygienic Menstruation Day.

Addressing the Menstrual Hygiene Management meeting, Magar said that Nepal Government would celebrate the day to enducate and aware communities of safe menstruation hygiene management.


Other ministries that will be joining the government’s celebration are Ministry of Education, Home Affairs and Department of Women and Children.


“Menstruation is connected to our society, religion and culture hence it is very challenging job to make people aware about the untouchability and superstitious beliefs,” Magar said.


Moreover she added that just and equal representation of female representatives in local levels could also help communities adopt various methods to eliminate the social evil.


Various programs have been ongoing today to celebrate Menstrual Hygiene Day. The international slogan for this year is #NoMoreLimits.
