13934 representatives elected in 278 local units

KATHMANDU, May 25: With the counting of votes of the first phase of the local elections nearing conclusion, nearly 13000 peoples' representatives have been elected as of Thursday.

KATHMANDU, May 25: With the counting of votes of the first phase of the local elections nearing conclusion, nearly 13000 peoples' representatives have been elected as of Thursday.

 

Issuing a press statement, the Election Commission (EC) said 12,936 peoples' representatives have been elected in 278 local units in 34 districts. Vote counting is still underway in four local units -- Kathmandu, Bharatpur and Pokhara metropolises, and Chagunarayan municipality of Bhaktapur.

 

The EC has conducted first round of local elections. This time, mayor and deputy mayor of metropolitan city, chief and deputy chief of rural municipality in each local unit and a ward member and five members were elected in each ward. 



As per election provision 278 chiefs of local units, 2513 ward members and  2508 women members have been elected, and the number of elected Dalit women representatives stands at 2367.
