KATHMANDU Nov 23: Spiritual leader Dalai Lama has spread misleading information about the birthplace of Buddha.

Speaking at a program held in India recently, Lama, who is living in exile in India, said that Buddha was not a Nepali, not Chinese nor Tibetan but Indian.

‘In ancient time, Nepal, India, China, Vietnam, Laos and some republics in Russia  were the part of Mahabharata. So, I think Buddha was a great Indian master of Asia,” he argued.

Responding to his recent speech, the Dharmodaya Sabha has urged Dharmaguru Dalai Lama, to immediately stop spreading such misleading information about the birthplace of Gautam Buddha.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, the Sabha has said that statement made by a religious guru like Lama that Gautam Buddha was born in India is objectionable.

As even the United Nations has recognized Nepal as a birthplace of Buddha and enlisted the place in world heritage list, it is very regrettable to hear Lama say that Buddha was born in India.

Watch below what exactly Lama says about Buddha's birthplace:
