Preparation starts to establish govt medical colleges in all provinces

KATHMANDU, April 7: The government has started to prepare for the establishment of government medical colleges in all seven provinces of Nepal.



Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Devendra Poudel said that a proposal to open government medical colleges in all the seven provinces has been submitted to the cabinet. He also clarified that the government has to make preparations to set up medical colleges in all provinces, considering the fact that Nepali students spend billions of rupees to study medicine abroad.

Speaking at an event organized by the Federation of Professional Training and Employment of Nepal (FPTEN) in Kathmandu on Thursday, Minister Poudel said that after reviewing the annual expenditure of around Rs 197 billion spent by medical students in Japan, Australia, Bangladesh, China and India, government has decided to move ahead by establishing medical colleges in the country itself. He also said that the government has taken a policy to take the private sector medical colleges along with it.


Similarly, Minister Poudel also reiterated that the government has no plans to replace the private sector medical colleges.
