"Returning officers deployed to the local units themselves will administer the oath of office and secrecy to all elected officials of local units," said Election Commission spokesman Surya Prasad Sharma.

A board meeting of the EC has decided to make changes to the regulation after confusions arose regarding the oath of office and secrecy in the changed context. According to the amended regulations state that the terms of the elected peoples' representatives shall begin seven days after the poll results are made public.
