JAJARKOT, Sept 18: The dairies at eight locations in the district have shutdown after milk production shrank in wake of increasing deforestation which in turn has forced many to abandon animal husbandry.

Many dairies run under government grant at Thalaha, Dashera, Paanchkatiya, Mark, Manghat, Rimna, Bohara and Salma VDCs are on verge of closing down. A dairy at the district headquarters is the only one operational now, District Animal Service Office, Acting Chief Kapil Prasad Upadhaya told the National News Agency (RSS).

In the past a single house used to have more than four hundred buffaloes while these days only one buffalo is to be found in a house. Jaya Bahadur Khatri, a local of Sakla – 1, said they are unable to find green pastures to feed the animals. RSS
