Presenting different evidence to that effect to journalists on Monday, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Biplav Adhikari said that the versions of the statements given by the family members have varied, a can with kerosene was found inside the house and the floor of the house was found daubed with the paste prepared by mixing cow dung and ochre as is the practice in the country the same day Bindu was murdered, adding that all this points to the fact that the family members were involved in her murder.
DSP Adhikari further said that Bindu was said to have left her house for school on the day the incident took place, but there were no eye-witnesses that she had left home for school on that day.
"A torchlight used by Bindu´s father was found at the spot her body was found, and the Kurta-Suruwal, the clothes Bindu was wearing were found in a burnt state but the shawl was found inside the house which might have been later brought out to cover the body," Adhikari said.
The police officer further said their investigation has found the involvement of the family members in Bindu´s murder. He added that who else were involved in the murder would be found after further investigations.
Bindu´s father, Rama Thakur, who has been taken into custody for investigation, has been ordered by the District Court to be kept in custody for additional time.
The charred body of Bindu Thakur, a grade ten student from local Prastoka, was found dumped at a spot some 70 metres near a bamboo grove on December 26.
Locals and leaders of different political parties in the district have started voicing for taking action against the doctors at the District Hospital, Kalaiya who conducted the post-mortem on Bindu´s body, saying the post-mortem report was suspect. The post mortem report states that Bindu was killed by setting fire to her.
As per the report Bindu died of asphyxiation.
