NC General Secy Thapa calls to open major corruption case files

NC General Secy Thapa proposes to open all files involving major corruption cases
By Republica

KATHMANDU, Jan 4: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has once again proposed opening all the files related to corruption cases. A few days ago, Thapa, who made the proposal in the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives, repeated the same thing at a program organised by Gandaki chapter of Nepali Congress on Saturday.

At the State Affairs Committee meeting, General Secretary Thapa said that the trend of ‘threatening to open files while in power, and then accusing that they were removed from power for attempting to open those files’ has created confusion among the people. Therefore, his proposal was to open all the files that are under discussion and clear all the doubts among the people.

“Let us dare for once, let us expose the corruption cases,” he said, adding, “Which files need to be opened? Let's write the names of those files.”

Thapa also proposed to make a law for it if necessary. “Who will open those files? Should it be the CIAA? Should another commission be formed to open those files? Let's do it after consultation. If we want to make a strong and powerful commission, let's make it,” he further added.

He also proposed to appoint a former chief justice if required and do it. He said, “Let's call a former chief justice and make this law a reality.”

Thapa proposed to expose all the files, the Cantonment file, the Giribandhu file, the Bansbari file, the Bhutanese refugee file, whatever name comes to mind, and bring everyone who has acted illegally within the ambit of law.
