150 additional police deployed daily
KATHMANDU, April 22: The ongoing teachers' protest, now in its third week, has severely disrupted traffic management in Kathmandu. The demonstrations have led to growing traffic congestion, making it increasingly difficult for traffic police to manage the flux.

Teachers have started their protests as early as 9 am in recent days, blocking major roads during office hours, which has caused significant difficulties for daily commuters. The ongoing protests in the Maitighar-Baneshwor area have worsened traffic congestion across much of Kathmandu, and the increased vehicle pressure on corridor roads has prompted authorities to deploy more traffic officers than usual.
"Vehicle movement has been disrupted in many areas recently. We've deployed an additional 150 officers every day," said SP Deepak Giri of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.
In response to the protests, authorities have implemented traffic diversions early in the morning at Maitighar and New Baneshwor, impacting other roads. The protests on the Maitighar-Baneshwor stretch have also affected the Ring Road area, further disrupting daily commuting.
As a result, there is growing demand from the public for the administration to direct the protesters to hold their demonstrations in other areas. The protests have caused significant challenges for nearby hospitals and schools, with patients and students enduring difficulties for weeks. Employees at banks and private offices, including those in government offices, have struggled to bring their vehicles to work due to the blocked roads.
