PM Oli: Govt committed to supporting Thame residents affected by climate change

Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has said that the Government of Nepal is committed to supporting the residents of Thame, Solukhumbu, who have been directly impacted by the effects of climate change.

SOLUKHUMBU, April 22: Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has said that the Government of Nepal is committed to supporting the residents of Thame, Solukhumbu, who have been directly impacted by the effects of climate change.


Extending his best wishes to the “Mountaineers’ Summit” organized in Thame village in the Everest region on the eve of the Sagarmatha Sambaad on Tuesday, PM Oli expressed that the government is always committed to addressing the hardships and suffering faced by the people of Thame due to climate change.


In his message, he said, “I hope that the conclusions drawn from this program will also make the discussions of the Sagarmatha Sambaad more meaningful.”

On the occasion of International Earth Day, a program titled “Mountaineers’ Summit, Dialogue for Climate Justice” was organized in the flood-affected Thame region under the coordination of the organization Sath Sathai Foundation, which works in the field of climate justice, with the direct involvement of all three tiers of government.


The event featured the participation of Nepal’s Defense Minister Manbir Rai, Minister of Forests and Environment Ain Bahadur Shahi, and Qatari princess and Everest climber Asma Al Thani, among other distinguished guests.


The summit was held in Thame, a settlement located at an altitude of 3,800 meters that has been damaged by an avalanche. More than a dozen mountaineers including world-renowned climber Mingma David Sherpa and the youngest Everest climber Temba Chhiri Sherpa participated in the summit.


The event was organized as a prelude to the Sagarmatha Dialogue in collaboration with Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, the Ministry of Tourism, Forests, and Environment of Koshi Province, and the federal Ministry of Forests and Environment.


The Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal Mountaineering Association, and various other institutions also collaborated in supporting the event.
