KMC urges teachers to take capacity development training during winter vacation

The Education Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) urged community school teachers to participate in capacity development training during the winter vacation. It is conducting this training to enhance teachers' skills and improve educational quality.

KATHMANDU, Jan 4: The Education Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) urged community school teachers to participate in capacity development training during the winter vacation. It is conducting this training to enhance teachers' skills and improve educational quality.


The 'Teacher College Program' will also certify teachers' qualifications through the university. Engineer Shailendra Jha, a member of the Urban Planning Commission, said, "Investing in the capacity development of teachers is necessary to improve the results of community schools, which is why we are organizing this training."

The training is scheduled during the winter break (vacation) to prevent any impact on students' educational activities. It aims to equip teachers with creative, integrated, skill-based, and practice-oriented teaching methods. The training will proceed in two phases, with a training for teachers of Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Nepali, English, and Economics for grade 10 on January 5-6, and  a SEE-targeted learning classes for interested students of grade 10 in subjects including Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Economics on January 6-20.


According to a notice issued by the metropolis, teachers will be introduced to learning methods including use of technology, group learning and project-based classes through the training. 


The metropolis has announced that it will hold training for focal teachers in creative learning and skill-based education without textbooks on Fridays from January 8 to 17, training on psychosocial counseling and career guidance mapping for teachers on January 18-20, training for facilitators of early childhood development education on January 7-12, training for teachers of grades 1-3 on integrated curriculum and constructive assessment on January 15-20 and sports training under the Creative School Development Program on January 8-21.


The Education Department of the KMC has stated that these trainings will contribute to the professional development of teachers and help improve students' educational outcomes. It has urged teachers to manage their time and participate in the training.


Community schools have their winter vacation from January 2 to January 21. The Education Department has designed programs during this period, following the action plan of the 2081 BS academic session, to positively impact students' learning, sports, and other activities.
