Three sweets shops monitored

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: A joint inspection team of Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has monitored three sweets shops in Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU, Sept 12: A joint inspection team of Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has monitored three sweets shops in Kathmandu. The team led by Ram Kumari Chaudhary, state minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development and Matina Joshi Vaidya, director general of the department, inspected sweet shops run by Pashupati Foods Pvt Ltd, Sajan Goth, and Shalimar Hospitality and Foods Pvt Ltd.

The team discarded food products that didn’t have manufacturing details on them, were past expiry date and lacked sanitation. 


“Managerial weaknesses were found,” said Chaudhary, “It is the traders’ responsibility to provide consumers with quality food.” She said the government would continue monitoring of other food products as well. Chaudhary directed all shop operators to improve their conditions within a week and asked the shop owners to be present in the department with details of improvement. The team had sampled 14 types of food to test.
