KATHMANDU, Oct. 2: The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has sealed a sweets house in the capital city. The Department confirmed the use of blue dye chemical named Hydro-1 in the chocolates prepared by one Sangam Sweets and Snacks Company.
The officials during a monitoring today confirmed the use of the chemicals in the sweets produced by Sangam Sweets operated by Sangam Sharma in New Baneshwor of the capital city.
Sangam Sweets sealed for selling substandard fare
Food Investigation Officer Ishwar Subedi said that Sharma would be booked as per the Food Act, 2023 and Regulations 2027 BS for the use of substandard and inedible contents.
The Act and Regulations have ensured the provision of five years in jail and Rs 50,000 in fine or both in case the businesspersons were found using the inedible contents.
Consumer activists, officials of the district administration office and journalists were also present in the monitoring.
Likewise, five litres of ghee found in the shop of Sharma in Baneshwor was also destroyed adding that polarity in the ghee was 39 against the maximum of 25.
