KATHMANDU, June 29: Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party leader Janardan Sharma has said left unity will not be possible unless senior leaders step aside and hand over leadership to a new generation.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Sharma said discussions on communist unity have become superficial under the current circumstances, arguing that meaningful unity must be based on ideology rather than personalities.
"At the moment, talking about communist unity has become embarrassing," Sharma said. "If we truly want to revive the leftist socialist movement, new faces must take over the leadership."

He said senior leaders should assume advisory roles and create space for younger leaders, adding that leadership transfer is a prerequisite for rebuilding the fragmented left movement.
Responding to speculation that he had become inactive in politics, Sharma said he has remained engaged in party activities in Kathmandu and was away from public attention only because he had been undergoing medical treatment.
Sharma also rejected allegations linking him to various financial scandals, saying he himself had demanded parliamentary investigations into such cases and had no involvement in any irregularities.
He said he remains committed to issues of nationalism, public livelihoods and the rights of landless people, adding that he is working to bring scattered leftist forces together under a single socialist platform.
