KATHMANDU, Feb 25: Surya Thapa, a press aide to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, has said that the formation of a new government under the leadership of Pushpa Kamal Dahal or Madhav Kumar Nepal - the two chairmen of the rival faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party - is more than impossible.
“The possibility of a new government under their [Dahal and Nepal] leadership is almost zero,” Thapa wrote on Facebook earlier on Thursday. Thapa, who usually comes down heavily upon the Dahal-Nepal faction, further claimed that the ‘hustle and bustle’ by the leaders of the rival faction for the formation of the new government proves that they are less likely to form the government under their leadership.
Great Leadership: A Road Less Traveled
Following a Supreme Court (SC) verdict on Tuesday to overturn the government’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR), the Dahal-Nepal faction of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has engaged in a homework for the formation of the new government. Dahal and Nepal both met President of Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba on Wednesday and leaders of Janata Samajbadi Party including Mahatha Thakur, Rajendra Mahato and Rajendra Shrestha on Thursday in an apparent bid to garner their support to form a new government in the changing context.
The ruling faction of the party led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, however, said that the prime minister won’t tender his resignation. Instead, PM Oli will face parliament, according to Thapa.
