Subba Singh Lama is a 60-year-old taxi driver from Kavrepalanchowk. He currently lives in New Road with his family. He started driving a taxi for a living in 2037 BS, when he was 22 years old.

Despite 37 years of driving a taxi, Subba says the work never gets boring for him. Earlier, he used to double as a private driver to earn some extra bucks. “It was not easy to feed and educate five kids with just one job. So I worked hard as I was young then,” he says.

But he later quit the private driver’s job because of time constraints. Subba says his earnings from driving a taxi are enough for him as he no longer has to look after his family because they are all earning for themselves. As he owns the taxi he drives, he can afford to be liberal with his work timings. Subba says that he receives about 15 to 20 passengers daily and uses five to six liters of fuel.
