DADELDHURA, Jan 15: The serene Parashuram Dham in Dadeldhura came alive this week as tens of thousands of pilgrims gathered for the annual Makar Sankranti fair. Nestled near the majestic Mahakali River, the Dham drew devotees from far and wide in Dadeldhura and neighboring districts to celebrate the festival, blending spirituality with vibrant cultural festivities.
This year’s fair was particularly noteworthy, spearheaded by the youngest mayor in Nepal, 28-year-old Mayor of Parashuram Municipality. His dynamic leadership brought a fresh energy to the event, ensuring its success and attracting record-breaking participation, according to locals.

Makar Sankranti is a widely celebrated Hindu festival that marks the transition of the Sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makar). It signifies the end of the winter solstice and the beginning of longer, warmer days. Observed with great enthusiasm across Nepal, the festival is associated with gratitude for a bountiful harvest, spiritual cleansing, and community bonding.
