KATHMANDU, Jan 10: The government has decided to grant a public holiday on January 14 on the occasion of Maghe or Makar Sankranti festival.
A cabinet meeting held on Sunday took a decision to this effect.

The festival is celebrated in different parts of the country on the first day of the Nepali month of Magh when the sun enters its northward journey from southwards.
On the day, people of Hindu communities take holy dips into rivers and ponds, worship at various temples and relish delicacies like ghee, yam, Khichadi and sweets like Chaku and sweets made of sesame and molasses.
