Chitrakar wins two gold in HIMS Swimming

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Manish Chitrakar of host Himalayan International Model Higher Secondary School (HIMS) claimed two gold medals in the opening day of the Fourth HIMS Inter School Swimming Championship on Saturday.



Chitrakar won 50m butterfly and 100m individual medley in boys´ 15 to 17 years agegroup. He clocked 34.09 seconds to complete the 50m butterfly and 1 minute 15.66 seconds to finish 100m medley.[break]



Defending Champion Lincoln School clinched four gold medals in the opening day. Shreya Dhital, who had won 11 gold medals in the Galaxy Cup Agegroup and Open Swimming Championship two weeks ago, won gold in 50m butterfly of girls´ 15 to 17 years agegroup for the Lincoln School. Her timing was 38.88 seconds.



Sofia Shah and Natalia Behrend won the gold medals in 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke events respectively in the girls´ 13 to 14 years agegroup. Shreya Dhital and Sofia Shah teamed up with Aditi Dhital and Darma Bijukchhe to win 4X50m relay.



Little Angels´ School also grabbed four gold medals on Saturday. Pasang Sherpa clocked 17.87 seconds to win 25m butterfly in boys´ U-10 category while Dipen Rana won gold in 50m butterfly event of the boys´ 11 to 12 years agegroup. Likewise, Sajan Chhantyal and Samrakchhan Thapa won other two gold medals for LA.



Chhantyal clocked 44.72 seconds to complete the 50m breaststroke in boys´ 11 to 12 years agegroup and Thapa finished 50m breaststroke in boys´ 15 to 17 years agegroup in 42.31 seconds to stay at the top of the victory stand.



Sonira Bista and Kiran Karki of Baba Boarding School won a gold medal each. Bista won 50m breaststroke in girls´ 11 to 12 years agegrup with a timing of 47.22 seconds while Karki finished 25m breaststroke in boys´ U-10 section in 21.31 seconds.



Oshina Bharati of St Mary´s High School finished 25m butterfly in 18.82 seconds to win the gold in the event of girls´ U-10 category while Anjalee Syangbo of The British School won gold in 50m butterfly event of the girls´ 11 to 12 years agegroup. Syangbo has the timing of 44.54 seconds.



Lily Colston, also from The British School, completed 50m breaststroke event of girls´ 15 to 17 years agegroup in 47.47 seconds to remain in the pole position.



Sahaj Shakya of Shuvatara School remained on the top of the 50m breaststroke in boys´ 13 to 14 years agegroup with a timing of 42.87 seconds.
