Police defeats Army to defend Pathivara Men’s Volleyball title

TAPLEJUNG, May 10: Nepal Police Club has lifted the Third National Pathivara Men’s National Volleyball Tournament defeating its departmental rival Tribhuvan Army Club 3-0 in Taplejung on Thursday.

TAPLEJUNG, May 10: Nepal Police Club has lifted the Third National Pathivara Men’s National Volleyball Tournament defeating its departmental rival Tribhuvan Army Club 3-0 in Taplejung on Thursday. 


In the final match played at Maiwakhola Rural Municipality, Police saw off Army on straight sets of 25-17, 25-13, 25-19 to win the title.

With the title win, Police has taken home a cash prize of Rs 350,500, while the runner-up will be rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 176,250. Police has also ended the doubts about its ability to defend its title as it had won the quarterfinal and semi-final matches with difficulty. 


While Police had won the second edition of the tournament, a team from Okhaldhunga clinched the first edition in the tournament which featured no departmental teams. Every participating team was given encouragement money of Rs 50,000. 


Kul Bahadur Thapa was named the best player of the tournament and was rewarded with Rs 50,000. Since Thapa won the man of the match award as well, he was given Rs 15,000 more. Police’s Bishal BK, En Bahadur Rana, Deepak Raj Joshi, Bhim Gaha and Saroj Shrestha were named the best server, the best setter, the best blocker, the best defender and the best coach of the tournament respectively.


Likewise, Army’s Dhan Bahadur Bhatta won the award for the best spiker. They were rewarded with Rs 7,000 each.
