CM Rai insists on collective efforts for women empowerment

MORANG, March 8: Chief Minister of Province 1, Rajendra Kumar Rai has said that we all should be responsible for controlling female foeticide.

MORANG, March 8: Chief Minister of Province 1, Rajendra Kumar Rai has said that we all should be responsible for controlling female foeticide. 


He made this statement while inaugurating an event organized here by the Social Development Ministry of the province on the occasion of the 112th International Women's Day. 


Stating that depriving women of education causes the country a big loss, he said that there is a need for the State to ensure and implement required laws, policies and acts so as to promote gender equality.

Women's proportional representation should be promoted as it would result in the development of all sides of the country, he said.


Similarly, Health Minister Jaya Ram Yadav viewed that women should fight for their rights if they are denied. 


Deputy Speaker Saraswati Pokharel accused society of trying to prevent women from pursuing higher education. Women's struggles resulted in the 40 percent representation of women in local governments, she said. 


Similarly, Minister of State for Social Development Bishnu Tumbahamphe stressed the need for 50 percent representation of women in each organ of the State. 


Chief District Officer, Morang district, Koshraj Dahal said that there is a need to build a women-friendly society in a bid to end discriminations against women. 


Prior to this, on the occasion, a morning procession was conducted that went through the main parts of the city before concluding at Aadarsha School. CM Rai, Minister for Social Development, Rajan Rai and State Minister Tumbhamphe, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and students of various educational institutions took part in the rally. Similarly, a blood donation program was organized on the premises of the school. Health Minister Yadav donated blood on the occasion.
