Brother-in-law of Sherdhan Rai's assistant assaults a Nepali Journalist in New York

UNITED STATES, Nov 10: Umesh Rai, the brother-in -law of Paruhang Rai assualted Lokmani Rai, a journalist based in New York, in the vengeance of writing news. Paruhang Rai is the chief assitant of Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai of Province 1.

UNITED STATES, Nov 10: Umesh Rai, the brother-in -law of Paruhang Rai assualted Lokmani Rai, a journalist based in New York, in the vengeance of writing news. Paruhang Rai is the chief assitant of Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai of Province 1. 


Journalist Rai was taken outside from a Tihar event, and was beaten badly. Umesh Rai had hit Lokman Rai in the face and abused verbally.The injured journalist was then rushed to Elmhurst hospital for emergency and has been discharged after six hours. 


Journalist Rai had filed case against Umesh Rai providing medical certificates.

Talking with Republica, Journalist Rai said he has been put under pressure to make amends regarding the legal case as physical violence against Journalist is seriously taken into serious consideration in the United States. Rai added, I have been put under too much stress. 


Nepal America Journalist Association (NEAJA) and International Nepali Journalist Association (INJA) has condemned the attack on Journalist Rai. There is wide crticism for the attack against Journalist. 


General secretary of INJA, Kiran Marhatta and General secretary of NEAJA Shiva Bista said,  we seriously contempt this vicious attack and the culprit should be held responsible for this violent action.


Rai works for BRT Nepal, a nepali Newsportal in the US. He has written a news in which Sherdhan Rai travelled to US from Thailand and controversial organizations and persons have organised a welcome program. These were the very entities who protested during PM KP Sharma Oli's UNGA (United Nations General Assembly) meeting and now they have welcomed Sherdhan Rai. Journalist Rai's news constitutes these aspects. 


It is said, this is the first time an attack has been made on a Nepali journalist in United States.
