KATHMANDU, April 10: Police have arrested Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) pilot Subarna Awale with US $ 93,600 at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Sunday night.
Senior Captain Awale was on regular duty and scheduled to fly NAC plane to Dubai. Police deployed to the security of the airport arrested him at around 11 pm after his activities were found suspicious.
NAC asks CAAN to allow tainted pilot to fly
According to a police source, Awale has said that he has committed a blunder and he was carrying the cash to send it to his daughter in the USA via Dubai.
Awale, the permanent resident of New Baneshwar, 55, is one of the senior pilots associated with the NAC. He has been sent to Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala after arrest.
As per the legal provisions, passengers traveling abroad can carry a maximum of US $ 5000 and they have to even declare source of the amount.
"We have taken him under control. We are investigating the incident. We'll send him to the Department of Revenue Investigation after completing our investigation," said SSP Prem Chand.
