KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli, has said that the country’s “reactionary forces” were terrified due to the strengthening of patriotic, progressive and democratic forces.

Addressing the eighth meeting of the UML’s Central Committee, which began on Sunday in Chyasal, Oli commented that the “reactionary forces” were launching false propaganda against the UML “in a ruthless and inhumane manner.”

He said that opposition parties were trying to tarnish the popularity of UML by reducing its influence, and called on the party to unite based on its correct policies and counter the false propaganda. He urged the party to work on the ground to become a decisive force.

“We should not remain silent on the accusations of our opponents. It is a weak idea that you should keep quiet. The allegations of the opponent should be refuted on the basis of facts. All our organizations should be enthusiastic and reach out to individuals and homes. Ideological work should be given equal importance,” Oli said, “The factionalism and anarchy within the party must be ended. Creating factions within the party in the name of democracy will not strengthen the party. We should be able to move forward by keeping the interest of the party and the country at the center, not by being misguided.”

In the meeting, Oli presented a 43-page written political report. The report includes the new political course - the need, justification and opportunity of the alliance between the UML and the Nepali Congress, six months after this alliance, instability, anarchy and attempts at sponsored despair, the changing world environment and Nepal's foreign policy, the review of by-elections and the building of decisive national power and others.

After the formation of the new government, Oli presented key achievements including the message of political stability, shared policy commitments and resolutions. Similarly, he claimed that necessary structures were created to facilitate government operations, the economy improved, and laws related to transitional justice were passed along with the defense of national interests and maintenance of balanced foreign relations, intervention in the cooperative sector to ensure justice for depositors and punishment for those involved in irregularities, and the acceleration of development and construction activities.

In the meeting, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel provided information on the political report as well as a brief update on organizational work. He also informed the meeting about the details regarding the decisions made at the meetings of the Central Secretariat and the Politburo after the National Convention Representative Council's meeting (on 8–9, Baishakh, 2081). Additionally, the addresses of the chairpersons of the Central Commissions, current proposals, and various agenda items were discussed.
