KATHMANDU, Jan 6: The Nepal Police has collected over Rs 2.24 billion in revenue during the first five months of the current fiscal year 2024/25 through various enforcement actions.
Implementing a special action plan, the police have launched campaigns to prevent illegal activities and enforce laws. According to Police Spokesperson SSP Bishwo Adhikari, the revenue was collected through actions in 10 categories, including the seizure of illegal goods, traffic fines, hundi transactions, gold, and unauthorized extraction of river-based materials.
Diversifying Government Revenue
Spokesperson Adhikari stated that the largest revenue source was from the seizure of illegal goods, amounting to Rs 905.7 million (40.42 percent of the total). Similarly, Rs 527 million was collected from traffic fines, Rs 427.4 million from the implementation of court decisions, Rs 262.9 million from the seizure of illegal gold and silver, and Rs 43.7 million from confiscated illegal currency.
Additionally, Rs 29 million was collected from unexplained assets, Rs 18.3 million from controlling hundi transactions, and Rs 12 million from the seizure of illegal timber, according to the police headquarters.
From mid-July to mid-December, Rs 11.6 million was collected from campaigns against illegal wildlife trade and Rs 9.2 million from unauthorized river-based extractions, SSP Adhikari added.
