KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Authorities have uncovered a gold smuggling operation involving the concealment of smuggled gold in sanitary pads. The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office apprehended three individuals during an investigation into the case.
The suspects include Sujan Nepali, 26, of Panchakanya Rural Municipality-1, Nuwakot, currently residing in Tokha Municipality-1, Kathmandu; Anita Tamang, 32, also known as Minsang Lama Tamang, of Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality-3, Sindhupalchok, residing in Gokarneshwar Municipality, Kathmandu; and Lal Bahadur Tamang , 22, of Temal Rural Municipality-1, Kavre, residing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6.

The incident came to light after a woman landed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) via Fly Dubai on December 29. Police received information that the gold she had smuggled from Dubai had been looted. Following the tip-off, a joint investigation by the office and Bhaktapur District Police led to the arrests.
According to police, the gold was melted into liquid form and coated onto sanitary pads to avoid detection. Approximately 436.10 grams of looted gold, along with three mobile phones and a motorcycle, were recovered during the operation.
Further investigations are underway, with the case being handled by the Bhaktapur District Police Office.
