LAMKI, June 16: The Janaki rural municipality of Kailali has begun a training to make sanitary pads for the women in rural municipality. The training has been organised to promote menstrual hygiene and also help them save money in the purchase of sanitary pads.
The rural women cannot afford expensive sanitary pad and this training will also help them become aware of personal hygiene during menstrual period, rural municipality Chair Pradip Chaudhary said.

Vice-chair Uma Mahato said following the training,, the rural municipality will also support women who want to make sanitary pad as a business. We would first want to promote the habit of using sanitary pads and will invest in the related entrepreneurship, she said.
Hima Mahat, one of the trainees, said she will now be sharing her skills to other women in the village as well. "We gained knowledge about personal hygiene as well as the skills to make sanitary pad," she said.
A total of 140 women had taken part in the nine-day long training.
