KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli has refuted the statements made by CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal accusing the NC-UML coalition of conspiring to bring down his government fearing crackdown on corruption cases.
Oli refuted Dahal’s statement in a 47-page political report submitted to the ongoing Central Committee meeting of the party.
Dahal, who led the government for 18 months till mid-July, claimed that his government collapsed after opening corruption files to reverse the government’s campaign. He added that the UML-Congress alliance intends to take away key achievements such as federalism, inclusive representation, and the proportional electoral system under the guise of constitutional amendments.
16 accused record statements before the court
However, Oli has refuted these statements, stating that they are completely groundless.
Oli claimed that the collaboration between the UML and Nepali Congress (NC) did not happen all of a sudden. “This effort of cooperation between the NC and the UML is to avert national crisis. We cooperate when a crisis arises in the country or when democracy faces challenges, and such a need may arise in the future as well.”
Similarly, he claimed that the Dahal-led government spread false propaganda that his government collapsed after opening corruption files.
“The Constitution of Nepal has fully embraced the democratic concept of separation of powers and checks and balances. There are constitutional bodies like the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) and agencies like the Nepal Police, Department of Money Laundering Investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation and the National Vigilance Centre (NVC) to investigate corruption,” PM Oli said. He claimed that the Dahal-led government did not launch any campaign against corruption.
Besides, he also claimed that the Dahal-led government focused on a campaign to protect its own people.
