16 accused record statements before the court

KATHMANDU May 26: The 16 defendants in the fake Bhutanese refugee case have begun giving their statements. Their statements are to be taken before the judge at the Kathmandu District Court. 


A case was registered at the Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday against 30 people who were allegedly involved in sending Nepali nationals to the United States under the guise of Bhutanese refugees.

CPN-UML Secretary Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Nepali Congress (NC) leader and former Home Minister Bal Krishna Khan, the Vice President's incumbent Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, Security Expert Indrajit Rai and other high-ranking officials are alleged to have an involvement in this Rs 290 million.


This case currently has 16 defendants. They will each be made to testify in court. 14 of the arrestees are on the run. The case is filed against the accused for fraud, forgery of government documents, treason, organized crimes and integrated offense.
