KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sarbendra Khanal has left the CPN-UML. On Sunday, the former Nepal Police chief clarified through a Facebook post that he is not affiliated with any political party.
He wrote, "I want to clarify, as many of you may be confused about my political position, that I am not currently affiliated with any political party. I am working independently to address local and national issues. I will continue to contribute to the country and society according to the situation."
Former IGP Khanal joining UML
Khanal made this announcement after the CPN-UML expelled Bhim Rawal from the party on December 25. The party removed Rawal from membership, effective from that date. Following the expulsion, there were discussions about Rawal forming a new political party.
However, Rawal has now launched the "Motherland Awakening Campaign" and is traveling across the country. Meanwhile, speculation has arisen that Khanal may join Rawal's campaign. Previously, Rawal had indicated that former security officials might also join the campaign.
