Nepal's Shilshila Acharya named among BBC's 100 Most Influential Women

Acharya is known for her work in waste management and sustainable development, focusing on plastic recycling and promoting green initiatives in Nepal. KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Shilshila Acharya, a prominent entrepreneur in Nepal, has been included in the BBC’s 2024 list of 100 inspiring and influential women.


Acharya is known for her work in waste management and sustainable development, focusing on plastic recycling and promoting green initiatives in Nepal. She is the founder of 'Avni Ventures,' an organization that has been instrumental in plastic waste management while creating job opportunities for marginalized communities.

Her campaign, 'Thank You, I Carry My Bag,' has played a key role in reducing plastic bag usage across Nepal. Additionally, Acharya led the Himalayan Clean-up Campaign, successfully collecting 119 tons of waste.


Through her efforts, even indigenous women have been empowered to create jewelry, mats, and baskets from waste materials, improving their livelihoods.


Other notable women featured in the BBC list include Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad, activist Gisele Pellico, artist Sharon Stone, Olympic athlete Rebecca Andrade, singer Ray, and visual artist Tracey Emin.
