KATHMANDU, Jan 13: The testing of the newly-laid pipelines for drinking water distribution in the Kathmandu Valley has been completed. With the resumption of water distribution from Melamchi, the Project Implementation Directorate (PID) had begun testing the pipelines.
Project Director Tika Bahadur Chaudhary said that the testing of 980 kilometers of pipelines of 33 water distribution networks laid under Melamchi sub-project-2 has been completed.
For Sustainable Supply of Melamchi Water to Valley
Chandra Kumar Pan Shrestha, PID deputy project director, said that out of the total 33 water supply networks that have completed testing, 14 have already been handed over to the Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Management Board (KVWSMB), and the process of transferring the remaining 19 is now underway.
Shrestha said, “A total of 33 drinking water distribution networks, out of which 14 networks with 350 kilometers of pipelines have already been tested and handed over to the KVWSMB in the first and second phases, while the handover process for the remaining 19 in the third phase is underway.”
It has been reported the primary pipelines of the water distribution network, 33 water distribution networks have a total of 1,010 kilometers of pipelines. Additionally, a total of 60,831 new meters have been installed in the pipelines that distribute drinking water.
