UNESCO-Hamdan Education Prize for Rato Bangala

KATHMANDU, March 7: The Rato Bangala Foundation (RBF) has been awarded the UNESCO-Hamdan Education Prize for 2012 along with the African Institute for the Mathematical Sciences Schools Enrichment Center of South Africa and the Banquo del Libro, a library network, of Venezuela, the RBF said in a press statement received here on Wednesday.



RBF will get to share the prize of US$ 270,000 for the quality of its teacher training program in the Dailekh School Project. [break]



The project, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education of the Government of Nepal, seeks to improve the standard of instruction in all the 520 primary schools in the western district by training and motivating teachers, according to the statement.



The biennial award, formally known as the "Unesco-Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum Prize for Outstanding Practice and Performance in Enhancing the Effectiveness of Teachers" was announced at Unesco Headquarters in Paris on March 6, 2012 and will be given in Dubai on April 24 in the presence of the Unesco Director-General Irina Bokova.
