KATHMANDU, Jan 19: Police arrested two individuals for assaulting Uddhav Thapa, former Chief Minister of Koshi Province and Provincial President of the Nepali Congress.
The assault happened on Saturday afternoon when Thapa was on his way home in Arjundhara after attending the general assembly of the Nepal Press Union, Jhapa, held at the Domukha tourist site in Shiv Satakshi. Chief District Officer Gopal Kumar Adhikari confirmed that the incident occurred on the Surunga section of the East-West Highway.
Adhikari stated that police detained the two individuals involved in the assault and launched an investigation.

"The two apprehended persons, said to be employees of the Nepal Electricity Authority, attacked the former Chief Minister on his way home after the program. Police have taken them into custody," Adhikari said.
Thapa said that an unidentified group stopped his vehicle, Ba 1 Jha 653, and suddenly attacked him.
"We were heading home, and after reaching Surunga, an unidentified group blocked our vehicle and assaulted me," Thapa said.
The attack caused minor injuries to Thapa’s eyes and face. He returned home after receiving treatment at Birta City Hospital and Research Centre in Birtamod.
Police also seized a vehicle belonging to the Nepal Electricity Authority, which was present at the scene of the assault.
