KATHMANDU, Jan 18: Nepal suffered a heavy defeat to Bangladesh by five wickets in their opening match of the ICC U-19 Women's World Cup in Malaysia, owing to a poor batting display.
After losing the toss, Nepal were invited to bat first at the YSD-UKM Oval. They were bundled out for a mere 52 runs in 18.2 overs. Opener Sana Praveen top-scored with 19 runs, while Seemana KC contributed 10 runs. None of the other players managed to reach double figures.

Bangladesh’s bowlers dominated, with Jannatal Maoua taking two wickets and Anisa Sowa, Foyomodi Choya, and Nishita Akhtar each claiming a wicket. Nepal also lost five players to run outs.
Chasing a modest target of 53 runs, Bangladesh achieved it in just 13.2 overs at the loss of five wickets. Sadia Islam was the top scorer for Bangladesh with 16 runs, and Sumaiya Akhtar added 12 runs. Nepal's bowlers Pooja Mahato, Rachana Chaudhary, Riya Sharma, and Seemana KC each took one wicket.
With the win, Bangladesh moved to second place in Group 'D', while Nepal sits at third.
