KATHMANDU, Jan 19: The District Government Attorney's Office (DGAO) of Rupandehi has advanced the registration of the case against 42 people, including former home minister Rabi Lamichhane, to the Rupandehi District Court. On Sunday it forwarded the supplementary case related to the misappropriation of funds from the Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative in Butwal to the District Court.
The DGAO, Rupandehi sent a case against 42 individuals to the court for registration under supplementary prosecution. Earlier the office had already filed a case with 28 individuals named as defendants.

Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative’s 10,391 members deposited Rs 1.31 billion, of which more than Rs 861.8 million were embezzled. More than Rs 140 million of this amount was transferred to the Gorkha Media Network. The police submitted a report last Friday, recommending charges against 14 individuals, including former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane and former DIG Chhabilal Joshi.
Based on that, the process of filing the case has been initiated. Ananta Marasini, the information officer of the Rupandehi District Court, stated that it would take a few hours to review all the documents. He said, "It hasn't arrived yet. Once it does, we need to review all the documents here, which may take 2 to 3 hours or even an entire day."
Police sources revealed that the investigation report demands a total of Rs 41.528 million, including Rs 20 million personally from Rabi and Rs 21.528 million (collectively) in the name of Gorkha Media.
Sources say that the investigation report demands a total of Rs 42.778 million from Joshi, including Rs 25 million personally from him and Rs 17.788 million (collectively) in the name of the media. Similarly, the police report demands a total of Rs 49.68 million from Om Prakash Gurung, the chairman of Supreme Cooperative, including Rs 28.814 million personally from him and Rs 20.794 million (collectively).
