KATHMANDU, Feb 4: A case has been registered at the Chitwan District Court today against former Home Minister and Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Rabi Lamichhane, including 15 others in the Sahara Chitwan Multipurpose Cooperative Limited fraud case.
The District Government Attorney’s Office (DGAO) in Chitwan said that although preparations were made to register the case on Monday, it was only registered on Tuesday because all preparations were not completed.
RSP Chair Lamichhane faces another fraud case in Chitwan

The DGAO has registered a case against Lamichhane, 15 other individuals, and six organizations on charges of embezzling funds from the cooperative and defrauding them.
The DGAO had earlier returned the report file to the police to submit a report after completing the investigation process, citing a mismatch in the format and facts. A few days later, police sorted out the process and sent the file to the DGAO. After studying it, the DGAO registered a case against them on Tuesday.
A case has been registered against Lamichhane, Ram Bahadur Khanal, Rabina Rimal, Bishal Tamang, Nabin Achhami, Kabita Tamang, Deepak Lama, Ashraf Ali Seddique, Bhagwati Bamjan, Laxmi Prasad Poudel, Bigyan Rai, Netrapani Bastola, Shiva Bahadur Gurung and Pragati Shrestha.
Based on the investigation report of the District Police Office, Chitwan, Rs 389.79 million have been embezzled from Sahara Cooperative. The DGAO has filed a case against Lamichhane only for cooperative fraud, while charges for organized crime have been lodged against 12 others.
