Kathmandu, Jan 19: Representatives of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) have started actively participating in cleaning the Bagmati River in their respective areas.
On Saturday, Chairperson Ramji Bhandari of Ward No. 9 led a team to clean the Tilganga Blue Bridge area of the Bagmati River.
Ring Road cleanup campaign begins from Saturday
During the 610th week of the Bagmati Cleanup Mega Campaign, Ward Members Tekraj Adhikari, Rachana Sunam, Srijana Bhetwal, and Ward No. 11 Chairperson Hiralal Tandukar actively participated in the cleanup. Local residents, staff from the High-Powered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Limited, the Environment Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (Teku), and campaigners, including former Chief Secretary and campaign leader Lilamani Poudyal, joined the effort. Campaigner Kishor Singh Shahi stated that the team collected and managed three metric tons of non-biodegradable waste from the riverbanks, which was disposed of using a truck provided by the Environment Department of KMC Teku.
A joint initiative by Wards No 9 and 8 has launched a program today to clean the riverbanks and tend to plants along the Tilganga Bagmati Bridge to Prayag Ghat area. Deputy Superintendent of Police Shiva Paudel of the Metropolitan Police Force is leading a 20-member team for this effort, Shahi stated.
Last Saturday, Ward No 8 Chairperson Ashaman Sangat led a cleanup drive along the riverbanks in the Pashupati area. The Bagmati Cleanup Mega Campaign, initiated on May 19, 2013, continues to take place every Saturday along the Bagmati Riverbanks.
