INARUWA, Sept 3: The Itahari sub-metropolitan city of Sunsari has decided not to allow three-wheeler e-rickshaws to ply on the main highway.

KAILALI, August 22: "The first thing is that such a wide highway should not have been built in the market area but it was built," Birendra Khadka said. Complaining that the six-lane road was designed on the basis of Google map, he said, “While designing the road, it was necessary to make a field visit and study the geographical and social situation there. But that was not done and the road crossings were built in an impractical manner."

Naagdhunga road full of potholes again

NAUBISE, Feb 20: The vital road along Nagdhunga, which serves as the main passage to the capital, is full of cracks and potholes although it was repaired just four months ago during the last Dashain festival.  It is being repaired once again after complaints from the commuters. In the view of the upcoming monsoon, the authorities have expedited the repair works. The highway is among the busiest roads in the country with hundreds of light and heavy vehicles and passenger buses passing through everyday.

An international expert on transport and highway engineering, after making a visit to major road infrastructures in Nepal, commented that there is no single stretch of road in Nepal that is worth of calling a highway. According to this expert, there are certain parameters for any road to be called highway which is determined on the basis of width of the road, engineering design, geometry, quality of pavement, and provision on safety of pedestrians, passengers and vehicles.

PANCHTHAR, July 11: A road accident at Chitre along the Mid-hills Highway on Monday killed one and injured nine people. The jeep, which met with the accident, was half immersed in the muddy road and is said to have veered off the road.
