KATHMANDU, July 24: Nepali swimmer Tisa Shakya set a new national record in the ongoing 17th FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Monday. To mark the national record, Tisa completed the women's 100 meters breaststroke in one minute 26.13 seconds.
TAC’s Shrestha sets new national record
Earlier, Olympian Gaurika Singh had set the national record of one minute 26.72 seconds during the 20th National Open Swimming Championships held in 2015 in Kathmandu.
Earlier on Sunday, Anubhav Subba and Shuvam Shrestha had broken the national records during the same competition. Anubhav had completed the distance of men's 50m category in 28.26 seconds breaking the previous record of Chandra Singh Mahato, who had set the mark of 28.43 seconds during the fifth National Games held in 2009 in Kathmandu.
Similarly, Shuvam broke the national record in men's 100m breaststroke event, completing the distance in one minute and 11.34 seconds. The previous national record of one minute and 12.25 seconds in the category was held by Olympian Alish Shrestha.
